This eBay listing has ended : Sue Koto KATANA in polish. SIGNED (..."Sukesada"). A+ koshirae. Japanese sword
This is a 25.5" sue-koto katana in full polish (ca 1550). Exceptionally healthy, with only a few very minor ware (tiny grain openings). No big deal at all. Measurements are as follows...Nagasa: 25.5", Motohaba 25mm, Motogasane 6mm, Sakihaba 18mm, Sakigasane 4mm, and the kissaki is 1" long. Boshi is midare of some kind (midare komi). Sori is a fairly deep torizori (about 3/4"). Nakago is 7" long, suriage, 3 holes. Signed "Bishu Osafune Sukesada saku". This sword is most certainly not kazu uchi mono. Hamon is a beautifully flamboyant choji midare in nioi. Hada is tight and very evident. A very tight ko-mokume/ ko-itame. Exceptional hada. Blade is in quality edo period koshirae in superb condition. Very nice fittings (very expensive fittings as well). Habaki is solid SILVER, and unique saya is in essentially perfect condition. Horn kurigata, koiguchi, and kojiri. All inlay and/or overlay anywhere on this piece is entirely intact and in exceptional condition. Tsuba is old but still in very good condition. Handforged iron with nice, subtle landscape design in the corner. On the ura, just a small tree. On the omote, its more sophisticated, including the design of a tori. Fuchi/kashira are solid shakudo with the design of waves, birds in gold overlay flying overhead. Menuki are shakudo, cranes with gold overlay. Superior piece overall.
