A well provenanced ancient Chinese Eastern Zhou Dynasty bronze knife 'coin', dating to approximately 770 BC - 256 AD. Of typical form, with ridged handle and slanted blade. The handle has an oval perforation, likely used to stack & store the knife with similar examples, by means of a threaded rope. An excellent example of early Chinese currency / commodity money. Length: 5 inches. Weight: 13.35 g. Condition: Fractured, as shown. With a beautiful malachite and azurite patina. Provenance: Ex. Christie's, 30th September 2010, lot 334. Ex.
