Jumbo Ball Winderby Strauch FiberThis winder makes a very large center-pull ball. One-pound balls can be made! The newly designed Strauch Jumbo Ball Winder uses a ball bearing drive. No oiling or adjusting is needed. A longer counter weight bracket greatly reduces vibration. In addition, the longer 15" base eliminates "knuckle-smacking" while winding. The extra long length table clamp allows the winder it to be clamped to a standard 1 inch kitchen counter. For those who use a table that does not have a front drop down piece of wood (like you find on a typical dining room table), the clamp can reach further under the table to prevent any wobbling or "flapping" of the ball winder base. This is a change from the original shorter clamp. Each jumbo ball winder is tested to make sure it forms a perfect ball every time. That's why you'll find a small test ball on each and every winder. How It Works This unit generates a unique and distinctive diamond-shaped patterned ball as a result of its complex rotation. Two things must happen at the same time in order to wind a perfect ball. The whole drive wheel assembly must rotate as the crank is turned and it must also smoothly revolve on the clear plastic drive cone. Because of this off-center rotation, the ball winder must be clamped to a work surface. It is important not to wind the ball too fast. Doing so will distort the red bracket supporting the yarn cylinder causing it to slip on the plastic cone. Size and Weight Dimensions of unit: 15" L x 5" W x 9" H. Shipping weight 6 pounds. Storage Box Your jumbo ball winder is shipped in a handy storage box. -- Save it. Its a handy carrying case and folds flat for easy storage. A family owned business; we have operated at this location since 1978. After a few years of researching and visiting other farms, we added Alpacas to the therapeutic animals and other animals on our farm. Family members had for many years knitted and crocheted appreciating fine and unusual yarns. Now, as fiber animal owners, we began to acquire knowledge, acquaintances, interest in having our own fiber made ready for use in our creations and for others that appreciated (especially the spinners and felters). Our frustrations seemed to be shared with other fiber animal owners in that if you did find a source to get your own fiber back it was so far away that you felt you were kind of sending your precious animal’s fiber into the big unknown, hoping that someday in the far, far future you might get it back. We embarked on our quest to find the path that would work for us and other alpaca and other fiber animal owners. We learned that the raw fiber that was precious to us as animal owners also was appreciated by fiber artists in its carded form (batts and roving). We then learned how we could prepare our own fiber for that use. This led us to the Equipment Lines we are now carrying, quality, well known equipment that produce a product that is far superior to many carders on the market. . In our research we got many glowing referrals from the fiber artists that had used these product lines. This led us to be proud dealers of these lines.
