The sword is a Shinto wakizashi, dating to ca. 1600-1750. The sword and fittings are in Very Good condition. The sword is healthy and has a blade length of 19.5 inches (50cm). The hada looks to be itame hada that mixes with straight masame hada in the shinogi-ji. The hamon is a straight suguha. It is present the length of the blade ending in a ko-maru boshi. The tang is mumei, or unsigned. The blade comes in Samurai mountings. They are in Very Good condition. The tsuka is wrapped in leather cord in a nice design. The tsuba and fuchi/kashira are plain iron. The saya (scabbard) is lacquered black with a leather weathering cover. The leather cover has cracked in the middle and shows signs of age. The blade is in Very Good condition. There are a few small micro-nicks and scratches along the swords length. There is also a large patch of rust clustered near the habaki and other small spots of rust along the sword. There is a 1 inch lateral ware in the shinogi-ji. There do not appear to be any major flaws like hagire. Overall, I think this would be an excellent addition for a collector of Japanese swords or WWII militaria.
