Hello and thanks for visiting. I am a retired jazz drummer. I acquire cymbals from fellow drummers and estates. Here is a fabulous sounding Avedis Zildjian 20 inch ride/crash with factory holes to accommodate 4 rivets, acquired from a fellow retired drummer who purchased it new in 1955. It is in excellent structural condition - no cracks, a bell hole slightly out of round, and a smooth edge, pretty amazing for an instrument 57 years old. Please note the delicately fine lathing, particularly near the bell, a hallmark of Zildjian's 1950's attention to detail. The back features some beautifully fine hand hammering. A deliciously thin 1848 grams, this is a highly versatile cymbal that sounds equally great as a ride and a crash, and if you keep the rivets in, it has that delightful sound of rain on a tin roof, just fabulous! As was typical with Zildjian cymbalsmiths during this era, this cymbal's weight is more toward the center than the edge, and when you ride or crash it, it produces a desirable wobble. It has nice stick articulation and a rich crash tone in the darker pitch range, akin to the old K's when they were handmade in Turkey. The bell absolutely sings with a gorgeous clarion tone, perfect for Latin accents. A healthy buildup of patina and grime over the years has mellowed this cymbal nicely. There is no substitution for the aging process required to improve the sonic quality of cymbals, and the current Zildjians (A or K) just don't have the same character as this one. I don't have the technical expertise nor the recording equipment to make a sound file, but if the winning bidder does not love its sound, I will gladly refund the purchase price. The 1940's to 1960's was Zildjian's proudest era, an era in which they crafted cymbals the right way, and this one is a beautifully sounding example. Please visit my other auction of a great sounding pair of 1960s 14 inch Avedis Zildjian thin hi hats. Should a bidder win both auctions I will gladly provide a shipping discount. I pack carefully and will ship Fedex domestically and USPS Priority elsewhere. Thanks again for visiting and please send me a message if you have any questions.
