This is a very nice WW2 Imperial Japanese Army Officer's Samurai Sword and one I acquired many yrs ago from a US Army vet. Tang is signed KOAISSHIN MANTETSU SAKU (EAST ASIA CO-PROSPERITY MANCHURIAN STEEL MADE WITH). Opp. side dated SHOWA -2 ZODIAC SIGNS - AKI FALL OF 1942. Blade cutting edge is 66.8cm or 6 1/4+". width at hamachi 1 1/4" or 33mm width at yokote 22mm or 13/16". Very nice proportioned blade w/nice sori(curvature) . All these Manchurian blades that I've seen have the straight temper (suguha( and this is 5mm wide. Medium kissaki. Blade is clean and shiny but does have some surface scuff /buff marks - NOT deep scratches - nice looking blade nontheless. Tang marked as above and has nice kesho yasuri file marks. Also on nicely rounded tang shoulder is I believe a katakana mark KU followed by #'s 989. There is also a small W in the polishers marks above the dated side. Fuchi -tsuba-and all seppa stamped w/ # 76 (1 seppa stamped twice) Also has the old paper glued to scabbard (had a Japanese friend try to translate but it is partially damaged - 1st line was probably owner's name - 2nd line nichi tetsu tobata sagy sho ....(location of where made-tobata city Fukuoka) 3rd line rikugun gunso (army sargent) 4th line could not make out. Scabbard is free of dents - just normal wear to OD finish. Handle wrap is tight as is the handle - hard to remove.
