A Gorgeous, WW1-WW2, British/Scottish, Basket Hilt, Infantry Officers Sword with Scabbard! The beautifully engraved blade, with Assaye battle honors, rates excellent, and shows some slight nicks and slight staining. The blade's ricasso is signed "Sandilands & Son, Conduit St, London, W". I believe they were a military tailor in business from 1825-1941. The blade's spine is numbered "101,274". The blade measures approx. 33.25" long and 1.12" wide. The hilt rates excellent and shows some slight wear and staining, with one branch, very slightly cracked. The rayskin grip, with original, silver, twisted wire, rates excellent, with slight wear. The red, pommel tassle, is mostly lost to time. The red velvet and leather, hand covering, rates good and shows moderate wear and staining. The original, leather covered scabbard, rates excellent, and shows scrapes and wear to the leather covering and slight pitting to the nickel-plated fittings.
