holben Store The Jaeger-LeCoultre Watch Co. of Switzerland was established in Le Sentier, Valee de Joux in 1833 by Antoine LeCoultre. After 175 years it is still one of the most important manufacturers of ebauches (raw movements), and has supplied mechanisms to almost all the notable producers of luxury watches, including Vacheron & Constantin and Patek Philippe. Merging with the Alsatian watch factory of Edmond Jaeger in 1925, the name Jaeger LeCoultre soon appeared on wristwatch dials. They are a watch collector’s watch and rank as investment-grade timepieces. I am very pleased to offer for sale the following vintage timepiece from the firm, a men’s original 10kt Yellow Gold filled dress model that dates to ca 1960. If you were to look up “elegant midcentury timepiece” in the proverbial watch encyclopedia you may very well come across this watch, it is an understated classic with an untouched original dial and signed winding crown. Quadruple-signed for LeCoultre, it measures 39mm end to end and 33mm in width (34.5mm with original Jaeger-LeCoultre-signed crown). This works out to be just over 1-1/2 inches long by just over 1-1/4 inches wide, not counting the winding crown. My watchmaker David has fully serviced its original and high-grade 17 jewel, manual wind Le Coultre K480/CW grade mechanism to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. The 100% original silver, finely brushed, satin finish dial is in excellent, crisp condition – guaranteed untouched since it left the LeCoultre factory over half a century ago. It features raised gold Retro Modern numerals and gold hour indicators, original gold Baton-style hands and a cross-hair design sub-seconds dial with ‘sweep’ original gold seconds hand. Signed LeCoultre below the 12 with the “JL” trademark (for Jaeger-LeCoultre) and Swiss below the 6. The hardened acrylic crystal is in excellent, clear condition. The LeCoultre-signed two-piece case is excellent PLUS condition with no wear whatsoever, an elegant 10 Karat Yellow Gold filled example. The matching and original Jaeger-LeCoultre-signed winding crown is in excellent shape, operating smoothly. Turning the watch over I see that the back lid is in excellent condition, free of any wear or engravings. It is stamped “10k Gold Filled” at one edge. Taking a look inside I find an original and high-grade mechanism signed LeCoultre Co., Swiss – Seventeen 17 Jewels, [Grade] K480/CW - VXN with serial number #1,504,730. The VXN is Vacheron & Constantin’s import code but this was shared by LeCoultre for watches coming into the USA. The inside case lid is stamped Cased & Timed in U.S.A. by LeCoultre - 628/227 with case number below. This watch has been cleaned, oiled and regulated to ensure it winds and sets smoothly while keeping accurate time. It is fitted on a new and high quality 17mm black deBeer Paris hand crafted lizard grain band with matching color buckle so you’re all set. Much like IWC or Omega, wearing a LeCoultre watch identifies you as someone who appreciates fine Swiss watches but doesn’t go for the biggest, trendiest name on the market. I think that history, quality and design always trumps what’s merely fashionable – how about you? Since 1998, Holben's Fine Watches' goal has been happy customers. I treat buyers as I like to be treated: with courtesy and respect. I’m especially proud of my excellent feedback and high number of repeat clients. I’m a long-standing member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors (NAWCC), and have collected Swiss and American mechanical watches since I was a kid. Watch sizes: I provide exact measurements in millimeters (the watch industry standard) and inches, and include a U.S. quarter in photos as a size reference. Draw the measurements on paper to help visualize the watch on your wrist. Remember, men’s watches from the 1910s - 1960s were smaller than considered normal today.
