HISTORICEDGEHILL THIS AUCTION: ANTIQUE GERMAN VICTORIAN PAPIER MACHE CHRISTMAS BELSNICKLE SANTA CANDY CONTAINER , APPROXIMATELY 13.5" TALL, all original , unrestored , circa 1900-20s DESCRIPTION: bayard lane estate THIS AUCTION: fresh from the attic of this 150-year old home, this is the first of (2) ANTIQUE BELSNICKLE CANDY CONTAINERS we'll list tonight: Of paper mache with original paint, original clothing, original feather christmas tree; it opens to cylindrical candy box inside santa's belly. Marked with paper tag on bottom of foot "MADE IN GERMANY". Circa 1900-20. Approx 13.5" tall overall. In overall fair to good as-found condition, There are restorable age related imperfections: one shoe / foot is broken but intact; there are internal breaks to the papier mache around the upper legs ( pieces are all there, but now loose inside the garment, the container does not currently "stand" on its own). There is expected crazing & wear but rather minor; the clothing appears to be in very good shape. The tree appears to be in generally good condition. Santa needs some work but this is a wonderful piece nonetheless.
